Skipper After Rice
...has to be Aguerd in my book. No one else looks as assured as him after Rice.

Re: Skipper After Rice
Should be Aguerd now, Decs leaving and we should be getting used to trying to get on without him. Would also increase Aguerd in value if the worse should happen and he wanted away. Not many candidates to be fair with Oggy and Cresswell coming to the end of their careers.
If we went down, would like to see Downes promoted, he’s shown what it means to him to play for this club.

Would also have him involved in the upcoming derby games, he already knows what they mean to us.

If Rice could pass the ball then he would be worth double.

Re: Skipper After Rice
Did anyone see Moyes's comments yesterday ref with what when on in January and that Rice will blow the record transfer paid for a player in Rice position 'out of the water' obviously referencing what the rent boys paid for Fernandez. Also mentioned he hope he still stays on.

Quite a few picking Ogbonna.

I doubt he's even here next season. Contract is up.

Re: Skipper After Rice
Chances of Aguerd being here next year slim. If he stays healthy for the rest of the season and plays like he has done someone will come in offering Europe and he will be off.
Reo-Coker anyone?

Re: Skipper After Rice
Aguerd is the obvious choice, with Ogbonna as a second choice
Ogbonna seems to communicate well with his fellow players but is less likely to start every match
Long term I would say Downes. He's West Ham through and through. Competitive tackler and great passer of the ball. He should be starting nearly every game
Nothing against Rice and although his attitude is very professional, but I would strip him of his captaincy immediately
He hasn't signed the very lucrative contract he's been offered and all the indications are that he'll be gone in the summer
All the speculation is bound to, not only affect his game, but also affect the attitude of the players around him. Why would they take any notice of him when his future isn't with us?
I think it has a lot to do with our current poor league form

Have to see where we finish this season.

Bring in someone to be captain. Lucas Neill and Kevin Nolan were good leaders for us.

Twat. Get back to the untitled threads. And have a look who is Arsenal and Man City's captains. It's very important you know ;-)

Re: Skipper After Rice
Aguerd yes but will he be around in the championship?

Yes, obviously if there's no stand-out candidate then it won't make much difference.

Manuel 12:44 Wed Feb 1

I've often wondered... ;-)

Re: Skipper After Rice
Coffee - If you have a true leader like a Keane, Adams, Kompany, Henderson etc, then I'd agree that can make a difference, but if a club doesn't have one of those, and not that many do, I think it makes a great deal of difference who then gets nominated.

I bet you don't even know, without looking it up, who is Arsenal's and Man City's skipper is, Chelsea too.

Echo the shouts for Aguerd, looks top quality and a good run in the side should see him only get better
(waits for Moyes to bench him for Saturday )

Disagree. It's very important.

Re: Skipper After Rice
I don't care and don't think it's that important in football, as it is in Cricket for example. I will say though that I do appreciate Noble more now, he was a good captain and leader and well respected, even if we were nearly always shit during his lengthy spell.

Re: Skipper After Rice
Assurance and ability is one thing, but leadership is something else entirely. A decent bloke doesn't necessarily make a good leader - the type that can lift players and generally be a positive, motivating influence on the field and behind the scenes.

Ogbonna in short term and Aguerd in the long term.

Aguerd for me - a Rolls Royce defender!
